Cooperating teacher participation involves the following steps. You can access the materials needed for each step by clicking the hyperlinks.
  1. Contact the research team at to express interest.  Please include contact information for you and your student teacher.  We will not share this information with anyone outside of the study.  Cooperating teachers from the University of Connecticut do not need to complete this step.
  2. Sign Consent Forms. You and your student teacher must complete these forms.  They confirm that you understand the study and freely agree to participate.
  3. Watch the training video. It lasts approximately 30 minutes.
  4. Take the online quiz. This 13 item quiz addresses key concepts from the video and helps to ensure that you are ready to develop an Outcome Scale.
  5. Complete an Outcome Scaling Form. A blank Outcome Scaling form, and examples of completed forms are available. You should download them to your computer and create an Outcome Scale with three outcomes based on content your student teacher will deliver over a two or three week period. Please develop your Outcome Scale before your student teacher begins instruction on the skills you intend to measure.
  6. Send the form to the research team. We will review the Outcome Scale you have developed and provide you with feedback within 48 hours. All forms should be sent via e-mail to
  7. Assess students at the end of instruction. You should collect assessment information using the measures specified on your Outcome Scale form and summarize classroom performance using the aggregation method you specified.
  8. Record performance on the Outcome Scale and send it to the research team. Please take the Outcome Scale form that the study team reviewed and indicate the level of success your students achieved directly on the form.  Then send the form to the research team via email at
  9. Complete the online survey.  It asks for your feedback about the Outcome Scaling method.  It should take 5–10 minutes to complete.
  10. Complete the Honoraria Form. Please complete the honoraria form, which we will also send via the postal service and which you can return via e-mail or with the self-addressed stamped envelope we will provide. This form gives us the information we need to provide Connecticut teachers with the $75 honorarium.
